COVID-19 Prayer Guide (Day Two)

Day 2: Those who have lost loved ones

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
(2 Corinthians 1:3)

Dear Lord, thank you for giving us comfort over and over again, countless times. We live each day protected “under the shadow of the Almighty” (Ps. 91:1). Thank you. Hard times will still come, but they have a purpose. We serve a God who “has overcome the world” (Jn. 16:33) and we have a peace & hope that transcends what we see around us on this temporary earth. While we’re still here, may we live every day you’ve given us to the fullest, as good stewards of our time, spreading the comfort, joy, love, and welcoming presence that You’ve extended to us through Jesus Christ.

We humbly ask you to heal every broken heart, including [name anyone you know who may be going through grief or sadness of any kind]. Comfort them, and make it absolutely clear to them from Whom the peace came. Protect them from doubting Your love in the midst of their grief. Draw them to You with your love & free gift of salvation. If they already know You, bring them into a season of further growth; reveal to them more of Your truth & give them a new song to sing (Ps. 40:3). Let them be a light to those around them.

Help them to adjust to this new life without their loved one. Make it absolutely clear to them that there is hope after this time of loss & sorrow. Be their Friend during this time (Prov. 18:24, Jn. 15:14-15).

You are a God of compassion who gives comfort, so help us to be more like You. May we show compassion & give the comfort You’ve given to us. Change & mold our hearts during this time. Mold them into houses of love that can’t help but overflow into the lives of the hurting.

In Jesus’ Name, amen.
